Health & Wellness / WHS Coordinator

Purpose

This role is responsible for coordinating Mona’s integrated approach to workers compensation, injury management and return to work for staff and assisting with the implementation of risk management initiatives, contributing to the development of a supportive and positive workplace culture.    

You will work closely with the People and Culture team and Risk Manager, and consult with Cluster Leaders from all business units to share knowledge, build awareness and understand areas of concern.

The Part Time Gig:

  • Take a lead role in identifying and managing workplace injuries and workers compensation claims, including acting as a point of contact for employees and the employer’s insurer, encouraging early reporting and intervention in respect of workplace injuries
  • Assist with return to work planning and progress of the development and implementation of approved return to work or injury management plans
  • Assist the employee to perform their designated work duties in a safe and appropriate manner. Provide ergonomic advice and conduct assessments as required
  • Provide the employee with information, reassurance and encouragement in respect of the treatment of their injury and their return to work and promote the benefits of returning to the workplace
  • Encourage and foster strong relationships and effective communication between the employee, MONA, medical professionals and the insurer responsible for their claim

A full-time position would be considered should the right candidate also hold the following skills and experience in Workplace Health and Safety management:

  • Develop and implement WHS programs, procedures, training and site/region safety plans to ensure compliance to regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Conduct site audits/observations to verify safety systems are applied and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Compile regular reports and detailed analysis of safety and environmental information to enable targeting of programs, training and improvement plans
  • Certificate IV Work Health Safety

The You:

  • Completion of the approved course of training or qualification or accreditation required to be recognised as a Return to Work Coordinator / Injury Management Coordinator under applicable legislation
  • Accreditation and expertise in Workplace Rehabilitation an advantage (but not essential)
  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of the Tasmanian workers compensation scheme and the requirements for making claims, managing injuries and facilitating return to work
  • A strong understanding and working knowledge of applicable privacy laws
  • Proven ability to successfully build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels of claims management
  • Strong and effective negotiation skills
  • Strong and effective document management skills
